TE Connectivity Air Bubble Detector (ABD) Sensor AD-101

Reliable detection of air bubbles in liquid is critical for many applications, such as medical dosing applications, food processing and smart farming, etc. Air Bubble Detector sensor (ABD) or Air-In-Line sensor is invented for detecting air bubbles in liquid flow. Due to their non-invasive working principle based on ultrasonic technology, Air Bubble Detector sensors have been widely used in many applications. Since the sensor uses ultrasonic technology, it’s not affected by the color and transparency of the tubes and liquids to be detected. The sensor consists of an ultrasonic transmitter and an ultrasonic receiver made of piezoelectric crystals. The transmitter is driven at the crystal’s resonance frequency. When air bubbles are presented in the tube between the ultrasonic transmitter and receiver, the ultrasonic transmission will be attenuated to generate a transition of the state of the output signal of the ultrasonic receiver. Please refer to the following figure for the concept of ultrasonic detection.
